Before the Internet became a center of commerce, it was mostly the province of the research community. Two of the most significant Internet developers were Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web, and "Father of the Internet" Vint Cerf, who helped create a way for computers to communicate with each other, a process that is the very foundation of the system. As the Internet has grown, many more people have contributed to its development and have left their mark on the online world.

  • Tim Berners-Lee - credited with inventing the World Wide Web.

  • Vint Cerf - co-inventor of TCP/IP, the language of the Internet.

  • Robert Kahn - a co-inventor of the TCP/IP protocols and originator of DARPA's Internet Program.

  • Marc Andreessen - inventor of the original browser software, Mosaic.

  • Jerry Yang / David Filo - co-founders of Yahoo!, the world's most comprehensive guide to the Web.

"Anyone who has lost track of time when using a computer knows the propensity to dream, the urge to make dreams come true, and the tendency to miss lunch."
