The Internet is a very conducive to individuality and creativity. Setting up a personal homepage allows people to literally let the world know about their lives, interests, and families. Pages often include personal information, pictures, stories and even resumes. Personal pages can be quirky, informative, abrasive, useful or useless, but they, more than anything else, truly bring a human face to the World Wide Web.

Some Examples...:

  • Tim Berners-Lee - home page of the man who invented the World Wide Web.

  • The Graham Family Hits the Road - an ongoing travelogue. They quit their jobs, sold their home, packed a tent, and with their two children embarked on a year-long 50 state mission to find out what is most exciting about America.

  • Gary Apple - sitcom writer who uses his home page as a pitch for employment.

  • Debby and Michael's Wedding - wedding pictures and behind-the-scenes information. The clear layout and detail make for a vivid, engaging site.

  • Harold Stusnick - well-developed, colorful personal page complete with pictures, links, and more.

  • Eve Astrid Andersson - games, poems, diary entries and plenty of personal information. Learn all about Eve's Embarrassing Events, her obsession with Pi, and more.

  • Geocities - offers free home pages and email in exchange for advertising space.

...and How to Build Them:

"Shout from the mountaintops or skywrite messages in the clouds, and you still won't reach as many people as you can on a personal Web page. It's your ultimate calling card."
